McMaster Engineering and Science Olympics

The Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Science joined together annually to present the McMaster Engineering & Science Olympics and Open House, introducing high school students to the exciting world of Engineering and Science through a visit to the McMaster University campus and a day full of academic competitions and engaging activities.

It is an excellent opportunity for over 60 high school groups from across Ontario with students from grades 11 and 12 to spend the day on campus and meet our faculty, staff and current undergraduate students, while enjoying friendly competition aimed at honing students' creativity and problem solving skills. Our Open House includes labs, discussions and demonstrations which offer a ‘sneak peek’ of different topics of interest and the chance to find out more about our engineering and science programs, departments and facilities. The event has become so popular, registration fills within one day upon launch each September.

McMaster Mini-University

Mini-University is a two week sneak-peek at real university life, without the tests! The camp is built on a foundation of community - where every camper is valued and respected - and is designed to engage children through hands-on activities. Campers explore the earth, unravel the mysteries of the human mind, discover what it was like to live thousands of years ago, solve crime scene mysteries, test the laws of chemistry and physics, and create their own drama and multimedia shows...the possibilities are endless! We believe that all children inherently like to learn, and that the best way to learn is through exploration and adventure. At Mini-University, this idea is fostered through hands-on, self-directed activities spread across 3 unique modules and camp-wide excitement. Instructors provide a framework with topics of interest and challenges, brief guidelines, and campers take it from there! The end result, and what they discover will be up to them.
